Artfully visualizing our humanity -- by Aaron Koblin   |   Author: Kathy

"Artist Aaron Koblin takes vast amounts of data -- and at times vast numbers of people -- and weaves them into stunning visualizations. From elegant lines tracing airline flights to landscapes of cell phone data, from a Johnny Cash video assembled from crowd-sourced drawings to the "Wilderness Downtown" video that customizes for the user, his works brilliantly explore how modern technology can make us more human." from http://www.ted.com/talks/aaron_koblin.html

Interface and ways of representing knowledge

"An interface can be a powerful narrative device. And as we collect more and more personally and socially relevant data, we have an opportunity, and maybe even an obligation, to maintain [our] humanity and tell some amazing stories.” (Aaron Koblin)

An interface might resemble most what an event is like. So, it might be a better way of representing knowledge than linear words. A few theories can support this: Bruner's 3-modes of representing knowledge, Gagne's learning outcome taxonomy

Collaborating interface

"The Johnny Cash Project" provides an platform for people's inputs to an collaborative project. Like the channels of working,

Often more specific questions are more effective than general questions. It is like providing an aid (scaffold) for people's answering. Knowledge Forum is about providing cognitive scaffolding, to facilitate cognitive processes. More specific questions type can play similiar role. Smart-Ana is designed partly based on this principle.
